The New Plymouth Coast offers year round bottom fishing across a large number of species. In the summer months from late January to April there are game fish such as Tuna and Marlin to be caught. The Club hosts a variety of fishing competitions throughout the year both bottom fishing and game fishing. For all Tournament dates refer to the "Tournaments Page".

Water temperatures vary during the year. During winter the sea surface temperature can drop to 12 degrees, and during summer can hit peaks of 21 / 22 degrees, though 20/21 degrees is typical from Janurary to April.
